Technology Overview
The ability to identify a piece of video without actually watching it with human eyes is highly desirable in many applications, such as broadcast monitoring, piracy detection, and content management and tracking. Yet the required technology is so complex that few believed it would be feasible. Today, Vobile presents the VideoDNA™ technology, a ground breaking technology that sets the benchmark in video identification.

The significance of VideoDNA™ to videos parallels that of human DNA to humans. Just like human DNA can uniquely identify a human being, VideoDNA™ can uniquely identify a piece of video content. Invented by Vobile with several patents pending, VideoDNA™ is a unique and robust identifier that can be extracted from video content and then used to identify the video content. It's a breakthrough technology for video identification with remarkable characteristics:
  • It does not change the original video content in the identification process. It is not a watermarking technology.
  • It does not rely on audio, text (subtitles or close-captions), or metadata to identify video content. The VideoDNA™ representation is generated purely from video, which will uniquely identify the video content.
  • It is robust. The VideoDNA™ representation stays almost invariant for the same video content, independent of video resolution, aspect ratio, encoding bit-rate, frame rate, or file format.
  • It is discriminatory. The VideoDNA™ representation is distinctly different for different video content, resulting a near-zero false positive rate.
  • It's compact. A fully packed VideoDNA™ representation takes only a tiny fraction of the storage that is required for the video content. A single DVD-R can hold VideoDNA™ data for thousands of hours of video content.
  • It is finely granular. Each individual video frame has its own VideoDNA™ segment, making it possible to identify a video clip or sub-clip of any length.
  • It is efficient. Both extracting and matching VideoDNA™ take only a tiny fraction of the video's running time.
